Municipal Drainage Solutions
Roadside ditches, culverts, and public drainage infrastructure take a beating every spring thaw and every heavy rain — and when they fail, it's not just an inconvenience, it's a road hazard and a liability for the township or county responsible for it. We work with municipalities across Central Wisconsin to keep public drainage systems functioning the way they're supposed to.

Municipal Drainage Services We Offer
Grading and reshaping roadside and property-line ditches so water moves off the road and away from surrounding land instead of collecting and undermining the road bed.
Stone placement to stabilize ditch banks, culvert outlets, and areas prone to erosion from concentrated water flow — protecting infrastructure from washing out during heavy rain or spring thaw.
Excavation support for culvert installation and replacement, including the ditching work on either side needed for the culvert to function correctly.
Excavation to support storm sewer connections as part of broader municipal drainage or road projects.
Drainage grading and correction for municipal buildings, parks, and other public facilities dealing with standing water or erosion.

Why Roadside Drainage Matters in Central Wisconsin
Spring thaw is the hardest test any roadside ditch or culvert faces all year — frozen ground can't absorb meltwater, and the resulting volume moving through undersized or poorly maintained ditches is what causes road shoulder erosion, washed-out culverts, and standing water on roadways. Rip rap and properly graded ditching are the two most effective tools for getting ahead of that seasonal stress before it becomes a road hazard or a larger repair project.
Common Questions About Municipal Drainage
Do you respond to municipal bids and RFPs for drainage projects?
Yes — contact us directly with project specs and we can let you know if it's a fit and provide a bid.
Do you carry the insurance municipal projects typically require?
ERE Excavation is fully insured. We haven't yet had a project that required bonding, but we're willing to acquire a bond if your project calls for it — let us know when you reach out.
Can you handle drainage work along active roadways?
Yes — we coordinate with the municipality on traffic control and scheduling requirements for work along active roads.
Do you handle culvert replacement, or just the excavation around it?
We handle the excavation and ditching work that supports culvert installation and replacement; confirm with us directly whether a specific project's scope fits what we handle versus what needs a separate culvert contractor.
Do you handle DNR permitting for ditch or culvert work near a waterway?
Work near a wetland, waterway, or floodplain may require DNR permitting depending on scope — we can flag when this is likely to apply, though permitting itself is typically the municipality's or engineer's responsibility to secure.
Can you work on a set public bid timeline?
Yes — municipal drainage projects often operate on fixed timelines tied to budget cycles or seasonal windows (before spring thaw, for example), and we plan scheduling accordingly.
