Large-Scale Drain Tile Project in Medford, WI
ERE Excavation | 233119 Co Rd F, Abbotsford, WI 54405 | (715) 613-0011
The Challenge
A property in Medford needed a serious drainage fix through a heavily congested area — tight working space, existing concrete to deal with, and a drain tile run long enough that it had to tie into a French drain already placed elsewhere on the property. This wasn't a single-afternoon residential drain tile job; it called for real equipment, real planning, and a crew comfortable working in a tight footprint.
Our Approach
The project involved four quad-axle loads of concrete hammering and removal to clear the way, followed by 1,000 feet of 6-inch drain tile burial through the congested digging area. To finish the system, we installed 150 feet of rip rap to properly tie the new drain tile into a French drain that had been placed on the property previously — connecting the two systems into one that actually functions as a whole rather than two separate fixes.
The Result
A complete, tied-together drainage system spanning 1,000 feet of new drain tile, cleared of the old concrete that was in the way, with rip rap protecting the connection point from erosion. This is the kind of project that shows the range between a standard homeowner drain tile call and a large-scale drainage overhaul.

Common Questions
How is a project like this different from a standard residential drain tile job?
Scale and complexity — a typical residential job is a single run addressing one wet spot or foundation issue. This project involved concrete removal, 1,000 feet of drain tile, and tying into an existing French drain system, which takes more equipment, more planning, and more time.
Why did this project need concrete hammering and removal?
Existing concrete was in the path of where the drain tile needed to run through the congested digging area — it had to be broken up and cleared before the trenching and drain tile work could proceed.
